How I Self Tan
Let’s just say that I was not blessed with glowy, tan skin. I also burn the minute I step into the sun, which causes me to wear sunscreen everyday. The sun is so damaging to skin anyways and everyone should wear sunscreen, but my sensitive skin causes me to be pale all year round. All skin tones are so beautiful, but personally I feel most confident when I have a natural looking glow. The only way that I can achieve this though is by self tanning, or Instagram filters.
Making fake tan look natural can be tricky, so I am going tell you guys about the products and techniques that I use to get my glow.
The number one key to a natural looking self tan is to EXFOLIATE. I cannot stress this enough to you guys. Before I am going to apply my self tan I do major exfoliation to prep my skin for the mousse. The first thing that I do is use a dry brush. I always do this right before I shower. Dry brushing has so many benefits like reducing cellulite, draining your lymphatic system, improving circulation, etc.. It also removes dead skin cells which is why I use it to exfoliate.
After dry brushing I shower and shave my legs which is another way to exfoliate and prep your skin.
Once my skin is dry I put lotion on my knees, elbows, hands, and feet. These are areas that get more dry and will absorb the tan more than the rest of your body. Putting the lotion on first will give you a more even tan. There are two self tan mousses that I love for different reasons. The first is the St. Tropez Self Tan Classic Bronzing Mousse. This product I apply with a mitt and it goes on bronze, so you have immediate color. The tan gradually gets darker within a few hours. I benefits of this product are that it gives amazing results and the color is immediate and dark. The drawback is that you have to rinse the product off after 8 hours, but overall I love this stuff.
The other product I use is the Rodan + Fields Foaming Sunless Tan. This product is amazing as well. The benefits of this product is that it goes on colorless and you don’t have to use a mitt. You also don’t have to rinse it off after its done developing, which saves so much time. The results of this product are not as amazing as the St. Tropez though. You definitely get a glow with this product, but it is not as dark as the first mousse.
After your tan is developed you have to make sure to moisturize very regularly. After a few days you want to start exfoliating to make sure that it fades evenly.
I hope that these tips and product recommendations helped. Happy tanning!
