Moving to New York City
If you follow me on Instagram, then it is very clear to you that I made a huge lifestyle change and moved to New York City this summer. Living here has been something that I have been dreaming of for as long as I can remember and it suddenly became a reality. Towards the end of the school year I was searching for internships in the city. I ended up reaching out to the marketing team at O, The Oprah Magazine. After working for Trend Magazine at Iowa State for the past two years I have developed a love and passion for the fashion and lifestyle publication industry.
After having countless phone and FaceTime interviews with the girls at O, I finally found out that I landed the summer marketing internship! I was so excited and so nervous (mainly because I had no where to live). But after finding a place to live in an amazing location, I felt a strange sense of calmness. For those of you who don't know me personally, I have a very anxious personality, and making big changes like this usually end in me having a giant meltdown. When this didn’t happen I was honestly shocked with myself. Reflecting back on it now, I think I may know why this is the case. I think it is because I am finally where I know that I belong.
Now, I have only been here for two weeks now and I’m not claiming to know what I’m doing and I get lost and turned around every single day, but I just feel so at home. The energy that this city provides inspires me in so many ways. The hustle that all of the people have makes me want to be a harder worker. The culture, art, and music make me want to learn more and explore things unfamiliar to me. The fashion makes me want to try new outfits that don’t make sense, but work so perfectly. The food makes me want to try anything and everything, and that is coming from the pickiest eater ever. But you get the point, there’s inspiration everywhere you look, and I LOVE it.
I have five more weeks here and I can’t wait to see what they hold for me, and I know that I will be back after I graduate, no doubt about it.
Here’s a look at my first 2 weeks in the city!
