First Month in Italy
As February wraps up I will have been living in Florence, Italy for a month now. Studying abroad was always something that I wanted to do while I was in college. It is definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity, to be able to immerse yourself into a completely different culture for four months. I have already learned so much about this city, this country, and myself and my knowledge will only continue to grow, which is super exciting!
While I am in Florence I am studying at the Lorenzo de’ Medici Institute. I am taking five classes: Italian, History of Italian Fashion, Fashion Entrepreneurship, Fashion Consumer Behavior, and Visual Merchandising. I love all of my classes so far. It is so interesting learning from people that have worked in the fashion industry and are from Italy.
So far I have gone on two trips. The first place that we visited was Venice. It was such a beautiful city filled with so much history. We visited the St. Marks Basilica, the island of Murano, went on a ghost tour, and explored the city during Carnival.
The next weekend was Valentine’s Day weekend so of course, we had to go to Verona, the home of Romeo and Juliet. This was the perfect day trip. They had their annual Love Festival going on, which was a ton of fun. Some other things we did was visit the Verona Arena, Juliet’s house, Romeo’s house, and went to a church. I also met my very own knight in shining armor.
Even though traveling is so fun, it is also nice to be able to explore Florence. My favorite place in the city is definitely Piazza Michelangelo. The view is indescribable.
This has been the coolest experience ever so far and I can’t wait to continue my journey, as long as the Corona Virus allows me to stay in this beautiful country!!!!

Olivia
